Jun. 7th, 2019 10:38 am![]() ★ First Impressions ♚ VISUAL: Tall and lean, with dark hair and eyes. Fit and attractive. Just looking at him you would have no reason to suspect that he's not human, because to all appearances he is. In the first two seasons, he has scars on his back, and he will refuse to talk about them, or let anyone touch them. In seasons three and four he no longer has them. (They are gone at his canon point in Mask or Menace.) He also has a pair of angel wings, but he hides them and it is rare that anyone will ever see them. He also has glowing red eyes and a Devil face that he can switch to/between at will, but those are hidden most of the time because he only brings them out to punish people. And Heaven help you if you ever see his full Devil form (although if it's gotten that far, Heaven can't help you anymore). ♚ FASHION: Think expensive. Yes, the Devil does indeed wear Prada. Tailored, not off the rack. He usually wears dark colors, but sometimes wears something lighter or with pinstripes. Sometimes it's a three-piece suit, sometimes it's not. Sometimes he wears a tie, sometimes he doesn't. He usually does have a pocket square. Think something along the lines of this or this. ♚ DEMEANOR: People desire him, and he knows it. He's also got the biggest ego of anyone most people will ever meet. Angel-sized ego. Very sure of himself. Most of the time he seems to be enjoying his life, but when he's angry, it's obvious he's angry. ♚ SOUND: Typical British English. This video shows a lot of the things already mentioned. ♚ SCENT: Clean, and like expensive aftershave or cologne. He doesn't skimp on expense anywhere. ♚ MENTAL INFORMATION: He has no mental blocks. You just might not want to poke around in there. ♚ MAGICAL INFORMATION: He's not human. He's a celestial being. ★ OOC ♚ BACKTAGGING: I will usually backtag into forever (or at least a couple of months), so bring it on. ♚ FOURTHWALLING: He watches a lot of movies, so he might recognize characters from them. He's more likely to recognize them as an actor playing a role, though. And if anyone wants to go "you're the Devil!" at him, all he'll have to say to that is, "FINALLY someone who believes me!" So bring that on too. ♚ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Hugs make him uncomfortable. He doesn't know what to do with them. The mun however thinks it's hilarious when he gets hugs, so go right ahead. Things like sex, however, he has no problem with. In fact he enjoys that quite a lot. Physical intimacy is his favorite kind of intimacy. Emotional intimacy is what confuses him. ♚ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: He has no problem with violence. He is, however, incredibly strong, so you might want to think twice before starting anything or you'll find yourself two rooms over before you even know what's happening. He will stop short of actually killing though. ♚ RELATIONSHIPS: If you're not Chloe Decker, it's not going to happen. ★ Permissions ♚ FIRST THING: Desire exhibition. Lucifer has the ability to draw out someone's secret, deepest desire, just by looking them in the eyes and asking a simple question. (If for some reason his control over this goes haywire, people may start admitting their desires without him even having to ask. This is, however, highly unlikely.) This works on humans, with one known exception, and only if he asks directly. It does not work on celestial beings or, as far as we know, demons, at least the ones from his world. So: if your character is supernatural, it's up to you if they're affected or not. If they're human and you don't want this to happen to them, they're either able to resist somehow or we'll find a way to end the scene before it gets to that point. ♚ SECOND THING: More desire exhibition. In addition to drawing out desires, people tend to desire him, with him doing nothing more than walking into a room. This makes it easy for him to get what he wants, BUT only things that they're willing to give. Whether or not a character is willing to give something up is on an individual basis and entirely up to you. ♚ THIRD THING: He's strong. Incredibly strong. He can throw someone through a plate-glass window or off a roof with a slight push. He's also incredibly hard to kill (but, in this game, it's not impossible). So if you want to get in a fight with him, go ahead, I guess? You're just not likely to win. However, he does not (intentionally) kill humans, so any fight that does happen should stop before it gets that far. ♚ PERMISSION: Any of these things can be discussed or avoided on an as-needed basis, but if you want to say anything here, or have any questions, drop them in the comments here! |

CHARACTER NAME: Lucifer Morningstar
CHARACTER AGE: older than the Earth itself
SERIES: Lucifer
CHRONOLOGY: End of season 4 finale
CLASS: Anti-hero
HOUSING: He would prefer to be housed alone
BACKGROUND: Lucifer was born before the Earth itself, among the younger of the angels. He led a rebellion against his father that was ultimately unsuccessful and was cast out of Heaven to become the unwilling ruler of Hell. In his new role as fallen angel, he tempted the first humans to become the first sinners, and has been blamed for every evil act since.
Over the course of the following millennia, he came to Earth for an occasional visit. Among the people he claims to have met (and sometimes seduced) are Napoleon and Oscar Wilde (he even claims that Wilde was straight when he met him). Each time, his eldest brother Amenadiel would round him up and get him to return to Hell. In 2011 he visited Los Angeles, only this time, tired of ruling Hell and punishing the guilty, he refused to return to Hell when Amenadiel tried to get him to go. Instead he opened a nightclub called Lux and started making Faustian deals with those who came to him, and he had his most loyal demon, Maze, cut off his wings so that he could not return to Hell.
Five years later, at the start of canon, he met LAPD detective Chloe Decker when she was assigned to investigate a murder that happened outside his nightclub. The victim was an acquaintance of his, and he wanted to make sure the murderer was punished, so he started investigating as well. Although she resisted at first, he managed to convince her to let him help her track down the murderer, which they did. Having enjoyed the investigation, he got himself hired as a civilian consultant to the LAPD, and Chloe's partner.
During the course of one of the cases he works with her, Lucifer discovers that Chloe makes him physically vulnerable. He tells her to shoot him, believing that this will get her to believe his claims of being the Devil, but instead he feels pain and bleeds. He thinks this means he has somehow become mortal, but later discovers that it's only when near Chloe that it happens.
He is later able to use this information to keep her safe. He follows her when she goes to meet a fellow detective she's been investigating, and when he provides a distraction to keep Chloe from getting shot, he's shot instead, and ends up dying and returning to Hell. He makes a deal with his father, who resurrects him.
Lucifer discovers that his mother has escaped from Hell and tries to find her. After she finds him, he has to hide her true identity from Chloe while investigating a murder. Eventually he decides that his mother's punishment will be to live on Earth among humans.
Another of his brothers, Uriel, shows up on Earth and says he'll cause Chloe to die unless Lucifer sends their mother back to Hell. Lucifer doesn't want harm to come to either of them, and in the course of his disagreement with Uriel, he ends up not only killing Uriel but erasing him from existence. After this, he falls into a depression brought about by grief and guilt and when the next case involves a sharpshooter, he places himself in the shooter's line of fire in hopes that he'll be shot, knowing that Chloe is nearby and this would kill him. Chloe tells him that he should seek help, which he does.
He grows closer to Chloe, and they have a few moments, including one on a beach in which he tells her that she deserves someone better than him, and she agrees but kisses him anyway.
Shortly after, they have a case involving poisoning, and he is able to save two men before they die by convincing Chloe to let him go in alone while she goes after the suspect. She ends up poisoned too, but the murderer kills himself before he can share the formula for the antidote. Knowing that Chloe will die without the antidote, Lucifer decides to go to Hell to get the antidote himself, but without his wings he has to die to get there, so he comes up with a plan to die and come back to life. He is able to get the formula for the antidote to save Chloe's life, but not before almost being trapped in Hell by his guilt over what happened to Uriel.
After this, he discovers that Chloe exists because his father wanted her to. Not trusting his feelings or hers, he leaves Los Angeles, with no indication of when he intends to return. He comes back two weeks later, bringing a wife, Candy, with him. It turns out that he had only married her as a way to get information out of his family, in particular his mother, about what they were planning to do. After he gets the information he was after, Candy returns to Las Vegas and they get an annulment.
His mother wants to return to Heaven, but Lucifer won't help her. He wants to stay in Los Angeles, because it's the first place that has felt like home. During his conversation, his mother discovers that he possesses the flaming sword, but he doesn't figure it out until later. She tries to convince him to give her the flaming sword so she can use it to return to Heaven, but he tells her that doing so would only lead to war, and people die in wars, so instead he uses the sword to send his mother to a universe that is all her own, and sends the sword after her, so no one can ever use it again.
Later that day, he tells Chloe that he wants to show her the truth about himself. Before he can do that, he'd kidnapped and left in the desert, where he wakes up and discovers that his angel wings have returned. A few days later, when he tries to show Chloe the truth about himself, he discovers that his Devil face is missing, and he thinks his father returned his wings and took away his Devil face.
After he and Chloe catch a serial killer, Lucifer discovers that the new lieutenant at the station is actually Cain, immortal and cursed by Lucifer's father, and the real serial killer. He agrees to help Cain find a way to end his own life.
He discovers that Cain killed a friend of theirs, and when he and Chloe go to confront him, Cain tries to kill them both. Lucifer flies Chloe to safety, then returns to where Cain is. They fight, and Lucifer ends up killing Cain, who had removed his curse of immortality. Chloe returns to the scene and sees Lucifer's Devil face, which had returned when Lucifer questioned if he really had changed that much after all.
After seeing his face, Chloe goes to Europe on vacation, and Lucifer stops going to crime scenes. After a month, he returns to a crime scene, wondering if Chloe will come back from vacation, when she arrives at the crime scene. Lucifer asks her on a date, and she agrees, although the date never happens. Soon after that, Lucifer discovers that Chloe had been plotting with a priest to return him to Hell. Chloe tells him that she's not sure if she can accept him for who he truly is, and he becomes involved with Eve, who has left Heaven and reappeared in Lucifer's life.
Lucifer, hurt by Chloe's betrayal, says that their next case is their last together, but when she risks her life to save his, he realizes how much she cares and decides to keep working with her.
Several months later, Eve, with whom he is still involved, encourages him to be his true self, and he ends up permanently disabling a suspect in a case. He fights with Chloe, whom he's certain will never accept him as who he is, and after he protects Chloe's daughter, they talk again and she encourages him to check and see if he still has his wings. Which he does, and discovers that they now appear as bat wings.
Chloe informs him about a prophecy ("When the Devil walks the Earth and finds his first love, evil shall be released") and believing the prophecy to be about Eve, he is determined to break up with her. He does so, and Eve is determined to get him back.
He begins to struggle with self-hatred, which Chloe tries to help him deal with. His Devil form begins to take over his whole body, until he turns completely into his Devil self. After Chloe helps him learn to forgive himself, he returns to his human form, and they think that the prophecy has been overcome.
He's pleased to be himself again, but it doesn't last long. Murder victims start rising from the dead, taken over by demons who are looking for a new king of Hell, since Lucifer abdicated. They kidnap Amenadiel's newborn son, Charlie, with the intention of making him their king, but Lucifer, Chloe, Amenadiel, Maze, and Eve manage to stop them before that can happen. Lucifer embraces his Devil side in the process, commanding the demons back to Hell, and they obey.
Lucifer tells Chloe that they were wrong about the prophecy; it was about her, not about Eve. He and Chloe finally admit their love for each other before he returns to Hell to keep the demons from overrunning Earth.
PERSONALITY: To those who don't know him well, Lucifer seems pretty easy to explain: just your everyday narcissist. Which he is. He can make almost anything about himself, and is an expert at denying a truth he doesn't want to admit. But that's what comes of being an angel, even a fallen one, and living among humans for as long as he has has added other aspects to who he is.
He decided to stay in Los Angeles because he was looking for something, although he didn't know it at the time. It was a way of embracing the “rebel” role he'd filled for so long, and it was a first step toward living the life he chose to live instead of one that was forced on him by his father. This is a big part of why Los Angeles becomes the first place that ever felt like home to him. He chose to live there, and he chose the life he had there, and while it may have seemed like a shallow and unfulfilling life to some, he enjoyed it because he wanted it. And then he met Chloe Decker and while nothing about his life changed on the outside, he had one more reason to want to remain in the life he'd made for himself.
The main aspects of his personality can be boiled down to two things: one, he's still bitter about being abandoned by his family after his banishment and fall, and two, he hates himself. Even after being banished from Heaven, he kept trying to please his father, and never succeeded (as far as he's aware, anyway). When he got tired of trying to earn approval he wasn't going to get, he stopped playing the role he was given and made his own. (Living on Earth was also, perhaps, an attempt to force attention from his father, which goes back to his narcissism and also indicates that no matter what he says, he's still trying to earn approval from the father he says abandoned him. He is still willing to make deals with his father, after all.) Bitterness at the whole situation led to impetuousness and impertinence, and when he sees an opening to make something about his father, he takes it. Even when it usually has nothing to do with his father. It's also this abandonment that causes him to put up emotional walls. He doesn't want to be hurt again, so he runs from emotions instead of confronting them head-on.
After he was cast out of Heaven and tempted Eve, he became the scapegoat for all of humanity's sins. "The Devil made me do it." It annoys him to be blamed for the choices that humans make, and he regularly points out that he doesn't whisper in anyone's ear and tempt them to do anything. But as much as he tries to convince others that he's not to blame, he blames himself for it all anyway. (He is the one who pointed out to humans that they have free will, after all.) He hates himself for ruining everything he touches, especially those who care about him the most. With Chloe's help, he is able to begin forgiving himself (or at least acknowledge that he wants to).
He hasn't completely forgiven himself. He discovers that his true form is tied in to his opinion of himself. When he sees himself as a monster, his form appears monstrous. When he does something selfless, his wings appear as angel wings (and he may even lose his Devil face). For example, when he gave his mother her own universe instead of sending her back to Hell where she didn't want to go, or allowing her to start a war, he got his angel wings back and lost his Devil face. When he killed Cain, and he told Cain "no matter what you tell yourself, you can't outrun what you've done, what you truly are," he didn't just mean Cain, he meant himself too, and his doubt about himself made his Devil face reappear. It's the appearance of his full Devil form that forces him to confront his self-hatred, and when he begins to get over that, it disappears again. It's only by accepting who he is that he can control what form his appearance takes; when he wants to exert control over the demons, it's in his full Devil form as the king of Hell. Later, when he puts the safety of everyone he cares about and the entire Earth ahead of his desire not to return to Hell, his angel wings appear.
It was probably inevitable that he would lead a rebellion against his father, for the same reason that he seems to be the only one willing to disobey his father's will outright. Every angel has a set of abilities that is unique to them and aids them in their role among the angels. His is the ability to draw out desires, and when he knows someone's deepest desires, it follows that he would want them to be able to follow their desires instead of a set of rules. With this focus on desires so ingrained within him, it stands to reason that his own desires are more important to him than anyone else's, including his father's, which may very well have planted the seeds of rebellion (and would explain why he was the only one who was banished, since his siblings did not have any desires that caused them to go against their father's will).
Being an angel instead of a human makes a difference in who he is, too. He tends to be impulsive, but this is tied to being immortal and invulnerable. Running into a potentially dangerous situation doesn't seem like such a bad idea when he can't die or even be injured by it. There's no need for him to think about consequences first, because there aren't any. And if he upsets someone, well, they'll just get over it like he does, and if they don't, what's a few decades of having someone upset at him when he's got who knows how many more millennia ahead of him? Consequences for those he cares about are more likely to get him to think something through first.
These are similar reasons to why he's prone to violence. He does have a temper, and once he's aggravated, he doesn't have to worry about physical consequences due to being invulnerable. Nor does he care much who he hurts. And if he's harming someone, they've probably (though not necessarily) done something that would get them punishment in Hell, and he's just punishing them before they get there. This does not extend to killing humans; not killing humans is the one rule of his father's that he does follow. He has improved in this regard with some guidance from both Chloe and his therapist, Linda.
Even though he has a certain disregard for the rules (hence Amenadiel referring to him as the "young rebel"), one thing he absolutely does not do is lie. He may deflect, or distract, or leave a conversation outright to avoid answering a question, but when he does answer, it's always truthfully.
POWER: Angelic physiology: He is one of the most powerful angels, and this ability covers many things. He has supernatural strength, which allows him to send someone flying 30 feet through a wall with just a push, or throw someone off a building with little effort. He can also send adult humans across the room with the force generated by his wings. He also has supernatural durability (he can survive immense amounts of physical damage, with little to no injuries or pain). Related to this is a supernatural healing factor. When he is injured, he heals faster than humans do. His feathers also have healing ability, which can be used on anyone who has one. Other supernatural qualities are metabolism (while affected by alcohol or drugs, he doesn't come completely under their effects); supernatural speed, moving much faster than any human; supernatural reflexes, with the ability to catch knives thrown at him, among other things; and interdimensional travel, allowing him to travel between Hell and Earth (and Heaven, if he weren't banished from there). Another part of his angelic physiology is immortality. He cannot be killed by human means. Other celestial beings, Hell-forged blades, or the flaming sword are the only things that can kill him. The exception to this is when he's near Chloe Decker, when he can be injured or killed by any lethal means. Shape-shifting (the ability to alter his appearance, between his true angelic form, his devil appearance, and his human appearance) and the ability to fly using his wings also come from his angelic physiology.
Omnilingualism: He claims to be able to speak every human language, and has been shown speaking several on the show, including Mandarin Chinese and Korean. He has admitted that this does not extend to reading languages (presumably he can read any language that uses the Roman alphabet, which he knows).
Desire exhibition: He has the ability to draw out the desires of those around him, getting them to admit their true nature, darkest secrets, or hidden desires. He has to have eye contact with them for this to work, and it's this ability that enables him to make deals with those coming to him asking for them. A secondary part of this ability is his ability to make himself irresistible to most humans, both women and men. As with his immortality, Chloe Decker is immune to this particular ability of his.
〈 CHARACTER SAMPLES 〉
COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE: Here
LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE: This is what he lives for. For millennia, he's been popping to Earth for visits, to find interesting people. Just because this isn't his Earth and he's not just here for a visit doesn't mean it has to be any different.
Now that he's been satisfied about the safety of his Earth while he's on this one, he's decided that it's time to put his best face forward and make some friends. So he's strolling down the street, in an impeccably tailored suit (no one needs to know that it's the only one he owns right now), looking like he owns the place. Which, back on his Earth, he almost did.
He approaches the first person who makes eye contact with him. "Hello," he says, the final syllable drawn out. He offers his hand, fully expecting them to shake it, because that's what people do when he offers his hand. "Lucifer Morningstar. Tell me, what can I do to help you get what you desire?"
He doesn't have the connections or influence that he had bad in Los Angeles and probably can't actually do much, but he has to start somewhere.
FINAL NOTES: He has several skills that are not related to his angelic physiology: master hand to hand combatant; master of manipulation and deception (although he doesn't lie); deductive analysis; talented piano player and singer; and he has the ability to get out of handcuffs, escape locked cars, and get into places, although it's not clear if this is a supernatural power or an ordinary skill picked up over the years.
